How to make and sell 3D printed name ornaments

Personalized ornaments sell at every holiday market, but typing names into a model one at a time doesn't scale. Here's how to take a stack of name orders and print them as one batch: one download, as few plates as possible, and the same filament change on every plate.

Updated .

1. Take the orders

  • Write each name exactly as it should print: capitals, spaces, and accents. Keep the list in a notes app or a spreadsheet column, one name per line, ready to paste.
  • For a year or a second line, add it after a slash: Olivia / 2026.
  • Group orders by look. A batch shares one template, font, size, and set of colors, so “red and gold, script” is one batch and “green and white, block letters” is another.
  • Online orders: design the customer's piece and send them the Share this design link. They see it in 3D and can approve the spelling before you print. At a market, do the same on your phone at the table.

2. Make the batch

  1. Open a template, like the round ornament, star, tree, or stocking tag, and type the first name.
  2. Pick the font, letter size, and colors for this group. Add a snowflake, star, tree, or heart if you like.
  3. Paste the rest of the names into Make a set.
  4. Pick your printer. Every piece is sized to its bed and packed onto as few plates as possible, and every name is checked before you pay.
  5. Download the whole batch at once: a 3MF for each plate, or STLs.

Every piece in a batch has the same letter height, so the lettering matches across the set. A longer name makes a bigger ornament rather than squeezing its letters.

3. Print it

  • Open the file in your slicer: each plate is laid out and each part is already on its filament.
  • With an AMS, MMU, or other filament changer, the colors switch by themselves. Without one, every plate pauses at the same height for one filament change: how to add the pause in your slicer.
  • Print plate by plate. A plate that fails can be reprinted on its own from the same file.

What each piece costs

Designing and previewing are free. You pay in credits when you download: the first name at the template's price, then a credit for every few more. Per piece, for a full batch:

A batch ofCreditsEach piece
20 ornaments6about 39¢–50¢
31 stocking tags9about 38¢–48¢
31 keychains9about 38¢–48¢
150 drink tags16about 14¢–18¢

The low end is with the biggest credit pack, the high end with the smallest. Your filament and printer time are on top. Credit packs.

What you can sell

The prints are yours to sell, in any quantity, anywhere. The files aren't: don't sell, share, or upload them. Built-in icons and every font on the site are fine to sell; other people's logos need their permission. The details are in the terms.

Common questions

Am I allowed to sell what I print?
Yes. Every design you buy lets you sell the printed pieces, in any quantity, at markets, on Etsy, or anywhere else. What you can’t do is sell or share the files themselves.
How many names fit in one download?
Up to 20 ornaments, 31 stocking tags or keychains, or 150 wedding drink tags or place cards. A bigger batch is just another download.
Can every name in a batch have different colors?
No: a batch shares one font, size, and set of colors, so it prints with the same filament change on every plate. Group your orders by look and make a file for each.
Do I need an AMS or a multi-color printer?
No. Ornaments and tags print in two colors with one filament change at the same height on every plate. With a filament changer it switches by itself; without one, you pause and swap once per plate.
What if a name is too long or has an accent?
Every name is checked before you pay: one that’s too long for the template, or has a letter the font can’t draw, is flagged so you can fix it or pick another font. Accented letters like é and ñ work in every ornament font.
Can I use a team or brand logo?
Only with permission. Team, school, and brand logos are usually trademarks, and selling prints of them needs the owner’s OK. The built-in icons, like the snowflake, star, and heart, are free to sell.
